Our Cinamon girl decided to lay early before my return and gave us 8 gorgeous pearlie whites(Thanks Wes for the house call). One egg is real big and my daughter is calling twins.

She was bred originally by our Black Pastel but spent most of her breeding cycle with our Butter male so this should have some great results.

Next we had a clutch from our Orange Ghost female hatch

We were hoping for some Pinstripe Ghosts but instead saw Pinstripes het Ghost and Orange Ghosts but not the combination. This pairing was from a male Pinstripe het Ghost to the Orange Ghost girl.

On the same day LeBron made his decision we had our own King join us here on the West Coast.

As a matter of fact this clutch produced not only 1 King Pin

But a total of 3 King Pins(all females) and 4 Butters. I couldn’t be more pleased with the gorgeous reduced patterns on these sweet lil babies! This clutch was a Royal Flush as it was all KingPins and Butters!

We still have alot of great clutches due to hatch in the near future and others that haven’t even laid yet. Thanks for stopping by!

6/22/10

I thought this girl had finished laying at first when I took her out of the rack. In this shot you can see her tail pointing straight out as she is still laying the last eggs(I hadn’t realized yet when I took the photo).

I noticed she seemed abnormally aggitated for a snake that had just laid, then when I peeked around I saw she was passing another egg and gently put her back. She had laid two in the morning, which you see next to her, and then another 4 in the later afternoon/evening. In the afternoon when I opened her tub and saw her coiled on a group of eggs with the two next to her, I assumed she was done as lots of time had gone by since the morning eggs. This was her first rodeo and I guess she just needed a little time to finish a job well done. All 6 eggs candled fine with nice healthy veins, we are excited about this clutch as she is an Enchi and has been bred primarily our Butter. Enchi Butters are quite pretty and I cant wait to see how the odds pan out.

Here she is finally done.

Earlier in the month on 6/4 we had a Pastel female we produced a few years back, lay 6 eggs. She was bred exclusively to our Pastel Orange Ghost male. This clutch should produce some Super Pastels het for Orange Ghost.

On 6/8/10 the mother of the Pastel, ”Raquel”(our Reduced Pattern girl), laid one egg in the morning. I checked on her throughout the day and waited for the rest but they looked like they were still not low enough to come out. By the evening I took the one egg out, which looked fine, and put it in an egg box in the incubator. I waited 1 day, then 2 days and finally on 6/11 she dropped the other 6 eggs. All 7 of them look good. She is a captive hatched animal that has a gorgeous reduced woma like pattern. I would like to hold back a male butter from this clutch and finally prove out this trait as simple recessive as she shows all the classics markers. I have held back a female pastel and a spider she has produced (both show some reduction) but have not gotten the male morph I wanted to prove her out. I am hoping to see a nice reduced looking male butter from this one to hold back and breed to all 3 females and finally prove this out as genetic.

Here is a picture of ”Raquel” and her Butter boyfriend in action.

This is shot of her daughter the Pastel soaking prior to her ovulation.

We are about two weeks out from hatching our next clutch which should yeild some Ghost Pinstripes and a few days later a KingPin clutch. We should have some updates and pictures as they hatch. Thanks for stopping by!

Its been a while and things have been rocking here since our last post. We have two more clutches hatched and one more laid. The first clutch is from a Spider female to our male Pastel Orange Ghost. This clutch has finally delivered a Bumble Bee after 18 possible eggs over the last two seasons.

The outcome of this clutch was 1.3 Pastels, 1.1 normals and .1 Bumble Bee all het for Orange Ghost. As I mentioned earlier, over the last two seasons we have had 18 eggs that were possible bumble bees. From those 18, 17 hatched yeilding, 9 normals, 5 pastels, 2 spiders and 1 bumble bee. For those of you who are not familiar with the genetics and possibilities each one of those eggs had a 1 in 4(25%) chance of being a bumble bee or a normal. Ouch, odds were not so kind on this project but we are very happy with our little girl and she will be staying right here in the Jungle.

Here are the females from this clutch all cleaned up.

And our little bee getting her first bath.

Our next clutch to hatch is from our VPI line Black Satin Pastel male to a dark Black Back female and boy did they deliver some really dark Black Pastels. This clutch yeilded 2.1 Black Pastels and 1.1 normals and 1 egg that went bad during incubation. This pairing is a classic case of selective breeding in order to produce a deep, intense black color and we are real proud of the results. You can see the normals even have real black backs too.

Here is a pic of the boys right out of the egg.

And the girls just out, I think this female will probably stay here as she looks like a great snake to make Super Black Pastels but then again, LOL, I say that about all the pretty snakes we hatch. Truth is at the end of the day, you cant keep them all.

Seeing the Black Pastels next to the normals really helps you get a good idea of their rich coloration.

Our last bit of info is of the latest clutch laid which was sired by our Pastel Orange Ghost to a Reduced Pattern Pastel female we produced back in 07. Also we should have three more clutches hatching and being laid this coming month so stay tuned for more action and thanks for stopping by.

We have had two more girls lay and a few more ovulate.

Here is an Orange Ghost Ball Python wrapped tightly around her clutch. She was paired very early in the season with a Pastel Orange Ghost but the last few months she has been locking with a young Pinstripe het Ghost.

Then we have a nice reduced Pinstripe girl who has been bred exclusively to a male Butter. Hoping to hit the odds with some butter Kingpins.

We have also had a few more ovulations. Here is a Burgandy girl that we are trying to prove out. She has been bred to her spider son. You can see her sides popping out during the ovulation.

This is a sweet Enchi girl who has been bred to a VPI Black Pastel and our busy Butter. Cant wait to see how this turns out.

Last we have our beautiful Cinamon girl who was also bred by our VPI Black Satin Pastel and then later in the season to the Butter. In this shot she has just began to ovulate and would end up swelling a whole lot more.

Cant wait for the hatchling shots! We are about two weeks away from our first clutch pipping.

The next clutch clutch is from a gorgeous Spider girl Cleopatra to our Pastel Orange Ghost male. We are waiting for some sweet Bumble Bee het ghosts. She laid 7 eggs a few days later on 4/6/10

Then we had a clutch laid on 4/9/10 from our dark blackback girl Rosie, to a smoking VPI Black Pastel(Satin line). She laid 6 eggs and 3 slugs. We expect to see some really black back pastels from this clutch.

We also caught an ovulation from our pinstipe girl and are looking foward to her clutch. She has been bred exclusively to our busy butter male.

Coiled and waiting to lay

We have lots of other females cycling at different stages so it looks like a very exciting breeding season ahead with a possible first time black pastel/calicos as well as kingpins, butter enchis, pin ghosts, pewters, pastel butters, albinos, pieds and others this year. We will update clutches and hatching results periodically. Looking foward to the 2010 breeding season!

We have also seen some more soaking and ovulating of some other females. This is a CH reduced pattern female we are trying to prove as genetic and an orange ghost female who we caught begining her ovulation. This OG ovulated 3 weeks exactly after begining her soaking period which lasted almost the entire 3 week period.

Today 03/26/09 we had our third clutch of ball python eggs laid from a cross of Pastel Orange Ghost male and a Spider female. This girl wasn’t supposed to lay until next week but instead she laid 25 days after pre lay shed. This will be a fun clutch to watch hatch, bumble bees are one of my favorite combinations and het for ghost is always a plus. We have been waiting on our first ball python clutch to hatch since 03/24/09 and I just saw the first head pip out at 3:30 pm pacific time. This will be the first of many ball python clutches we should be hatching this year. We have a clutch from out granite girl due to lay next week. It is a very fun time of year around here.

So since we had our first clutch of dragon eggs laid recently I thought I would do a post on these colorful lizards.

Bearded Dragons(Pogona vitticeps) are probably one of the friendliest and hardiest reptile pets you can own. Many reptiles tolerate handling to different degrees but beardies seem to enjoy the change of scenery and can be one of the best reptile pets to take out and spend time with. They are great for the beginer and expert reptile keeper alike. Beardies are very easy to take care of and will give you many years of lizard fun. I have enjoyed keeping and now breeding these personable lizards for over 13 years. We are currently working with the orange and red colors with a mixture of Sandfire, Blood, Chris Allen and Red Flame bloodlines.

Dragons are originally from Australia and enjoy hot, dry, arid conditions. A good source of UV lighting and heat source is required to keep them healthy and happy. Adults brumate or sleep for long periods during winter and then wake up, eat and begin breeding. We feed our dragons a staple of crickets and mixed greens with a variety of worms for treats. We also alternate calcium and herpvite vitamin powders to their food for additional nutrition. We also have outside enclosures and are able to let them bask in the sun when weather allows which is almost year round in sunny Souther Cali.

Our biggest female just laid her first of several clutches for 2009. The sire is “Rocco” (with headshot pictured above) has produced some gorgeous babies for us. We always look foward to the hatching of the baby dragons, one of the cutest baby lizards you’ve ever seen. I will have an update and picswhen they hatch.

On another note it hase been raining here in Southern Cali which is a great time to pair ball pythons. Our female ghost is showing good signs of building and has been locking consistently with our POG so I am think she should be ovulating in the oncoming months.
